My Shenzhen Spa Day – Just Trying to Relax

Okay, so the other day, work was just piling up, you know? Felt totally drained. Shoulders tight, back aching, the usual stuff. Decided I needed a break, like, really needed it. Thought about what to do, and yeah, a spa trip popped into my head. Haven’t done that in Shenzhen for ages.

So, I didn’t go anywhere fancy. Honestly, just looked around my area, near the office actually. Found this place tucked away on a side street. Looked pretty normal, nothing special from the outside. Just walked in, hoping for the best.

Inside was pretty standard. Clean enough, quiet. A lady at the front desk looked up. Didn’t speak much English, and my Mandarin is, well, basic. But we managed. Pointed at a picture menu they had. Just wanted a simple body massage, nothing complicated. Picked the 60-minute option.

Getting Started

She took me to a small room. Again, basic. Dim lights, a massage table, some towels. Told me to get ready. So, I waited a bit. Another person came in, the actual masseuse. Didn’t say much, just motioned for me to lie down on the table, face down first.

The massage itself? It was alright. Definitely strong. They used some kind of oil, smelled okay, not too perfumey. Worked on my back and shoulders mostly, just like I needed. Here’s kinda what happened:

  • Started with the back, long strokes.
  • Then focused on knots in the shoulders. Ouch, but good ouch, you know?
  • Did the arms and legs too.
  • Flipped over halfway through.
  • Finished with a quick head rub.

It wasn’t like those super relaxing, fall-asleep kind of massages. More like they were really trying to work out the kinks. Some parts were intense, really digging in. But that’s kind of what I expected from these types of places.

Wrapping Up

After the hour was up, they tapped my shoulder. Left the room so I could get dressed. Felt a bit oily, but definitely looser than when I walked in. Went back out to the front desk.

Paid the bill. Wasn’t too expensive, pretty reasonable for an hour. The lady smiled and nodded. I just nodded back and walked out. Simple as that. No fuss, no frills. Just went in, got the massage, paid, and left. Felt better afterwards, less tense. Did the job, I guess. Sometimes that’s all you need.
