My Trip to One of Those Guangzhou Spots

Okay, so let me tell you about this one time in Guangzhou. Heard some guys talking, you know how it is, about these so-called ‘health centers’. Not the ones where your grandma goes for cupping therapy, nah, the other kind. The ones where the ‘health’ part is kinda flexible. Been working like crazy, neck all stiff, thought maybe I needed some real relaxation. Curiosity got the better of me, figured I’d see what the fuss was about.

Finding one wasn’t like looking up a restaurant on an app. You gotta ask around, get pointed in a vague direction. Ended up in this district, lots of little lanes, neon signs blinking even during the day. Found this place, looked kinda normal from the outside, maybe a bit worn down. Glass door was tinted dark. Took a breath and pushed it open.

Inside, it was dim. Smelled like cheap air freshener trying to cover something else up. Lady at the small counter looked up, kinda bored. She had that look, like she knew exactly why most guys weren’t there just for a simple back rub. Asked me what I wanted. I mumbled something about being tired, needing a good massage. The ‘masseuse’ came in. We didn’t talk much. She did the standard routine for like, ten minutes, then kinda asked if I wanted the ‘special’ service I paid for. Kinda blunt.

Well, things proceeded from there. It was… transactional. Not much ‘relaxation’ involved, more like just a physical thing happening. Felt mechanical, rushed. Honestly, kinda regretted it halfway through. Not exactly the stress relief I was hoping for. More like added awkwardness.

Soon as it was done, got dressed fast. The whole vibe was just ‘get it done, get out’. Walked back to the front, the lady at the counter didn’t even look up this time. Pushed the door open and stepped back out onto the street. Felt a bit grimy, and not just from the Guangzhou humidity.
